The Reflective Don Juan

The young man stood on the edge of the ditch, and to help them with the leap, he would take them around the waist, swing them easily in the air, and set them down on the other side. It was a pleasant sight; I enjoyed it as much as the young girls. Then I thought about Don Juan. The young girls fling themselves into his arms, he swiftly catches them, and as swiftly sets them down on the other side of the ditch of life.

Søren Kierkegaard, Either / Or, 1843
